Throw your line in and see what you catch—the trout are excellent eating! Besides great fishing in the Toutle, you can enjoy peaceful river walks. Wander on down to view the Sediment Dam. One of our favorite activities is early-morning critter-track sitting down at the river. See who paid a visit during the night.

Eco Park has direct access to miles of roads and trails that will supply all skill-levels with an enjoyable day's ride. Whether you're out to conquer the most demanding of trails, or just interested in a pleasant afternoon's pedal, you'll be sure to enjoy your biking experience in the valley.

Wildlife Viewing
The main wildlife attraction for most of our visitors are the magnificent elk. Members of the Loo-Wit Valley residential herd are frequently sited in and around Eco Park. Deer, too, are common. The re-emergence of foliage in the mudflow area has also created a unique opportunity for birders who are interested in observing the re-habitation of bird species in the area, including bald eagles. Less commonly sighted are bears and cougars. Photos

Birding
Bring your binoculars and see how many of these you can find: Ladder Back Woodpecker; Evening Grosbeak; Steller's Jay; Black-capped Chickadee; Gray Jay; Canada Goose; Great Blue Heron; Red-tailed Hawk; Spotted Owl; Barn Owl; Screech Owl; Horned owl; Wood Ducks; Mallard Ducks, Bald Eagles. They've all been spotted in and around the resort. Bring your guidebook and see if you can help us add to the list.

Trail to St. Helens crater rim may reopen
A trail to the south rim of the crater of Mount St. Helens, closed since the start of a domebuilding eruption in late September 2004, may be reopened this year, officials say.

No decision has been made, but National Forest Service officials began accepting conditional climbing reservations last month, Tom Mulder, manager of the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, told The Columbian of Vancouver.
